To enhance effective leadership, governance, and accountability, the Board of Directors of REWO (Refugee Empowerment and Women’s Organization) recently underwent a comprehensive Board Training Program. The training aimed to equip board members with essential leadership skills, a clear understanding of their roles, and the importance of duty segregation to foster efficiency, transparency, and strategic decision-making within the organization. Impact and Way Forward The REWO Board training marks a significant step toward strengthening governance and leadership capacity within the organization. Equipped with a deeper understanding of their roles and responsibilities, board members are now better positioned to guide REWO toward greater impact, sustainability, and resilience. Moving forward, continuous board development initiatives will be prioritized to ensure that REWO remains a model of good governance and organizational excellence.

Door to door community level enrollment campaign with more focus on girl child education.

Our internship programs offers students and recent graduates opportunities to gain hands-on experience. Students get experiential learning opportunities in the humanitarian sector that will support their academic, professional and personal development. Today as we concluded our consultative meeting with the community leaders of bidibidi refugee settlement yumbe district, in attendance was the youth and women leaders, religious and cultural leaders, the refugee welfare council, local council and other stakeholders, the discussion was focused on the needs, expectations and perception of the local communities about the AEP program, with more focus on creating an environment where the leaders are more freely to express issues affecting low enrollment of girls in the hosting schools across the settlement, among our findings are lack of food for both the learners and their children in the hosting schools, also lack of children corners and care takers in the hosting schools makes it difficult for young mothers to attend classes, long distances from the AEP school also is a barrier for students to attend schools.

For us refugee silence is not a priority it is an option that we chose to speak up, million of girls aren’t at school today due to discrimination, poverty, cultural believes, war and early pregnancy or forceful marriage. These girls too have dreams to become future leaders like any other boy child out there The youth of Bidibidi refugee settlement have chose to speak against girl child abuse, neglect and discrimination. We started the year with the screaning of both the refugees and host community learners for our AEP program in the 5 AEP center in bidibidi refugee settlement ahead of the opening opening , we look forward to achieving our target this year 2024

Today we started our session with the mother to mother support group in swinga zone 2 bidibidi refugee settlement, it was an interactive session with lots of findings. We look forward to more engagement with this group
