Consultation meeting with community members

Over the past year, REWO has held multiple consultation sessions with refugee and host community members across Yumbe District. These consultations, often conducted under trees, in households, or through group discussions, offer a safe space for women, youth, and other marginalized groups to express their challenges, priorities, and hopes.

“We don’t assume; we ask,” says a REWO team member. “It’s not about giving people what we think they need it’s about partnering with them to design solutions together.”

These consultations have led to significant insights:

  • Girls expressed the need for mentorship and safe learning spaces.
  • Women requested more flexible livelihood programs they can balance with family duties.
  • Youth highlighted the need for vocational skills and startup support.

Feedback from these sessions directly informs REWO’s project planning, budgeting, and advocacy. It also strengthens accountability, ensuring that donors and partners see clear, community-driven results.REWO’s consultative approach is more than a process it’s a principle.
